PIN-Lock & Share: Keeping Your Files Truly Private

In a world where data breaches make headlines every week and digital privacy feels increasingly out of reach, one question has become more urgent than ever: who actually controls your files?

Cloud storage was supposed to solve the problem of losing data. And it did. But somewhere along the way, convenience quietly replaced control. Files got shared too easily, accessed too broadly, and stored in ways that left users exposed without ever knowing it. At Drivaulta, we believe that storing your files in the cloud should never mean surrendering your right to decide who sees them, when, and on what terms.

That is why we built PIN-Lock and Secure Invite Codes — two security features designed to give you back complete, granular control over every file in your drive.

What Is PIN-Lock and Why Does It Matter?

PIN-Lock is exactly what it sounds like — a personal identification number that acts as a private lock on any file or folder in your drive. Think of it as the difference between leaving your diary on a shelf and keeping it in a locked drawer. The file is still there. It is still yours. But nobody opens it without the right combination.

When you lock a file with a PIN, a padlock icon appears on it immediately. Anyone browsing your drive — even someone who has access to your account — will see the file but cannot open it without entering the correct PIN first. There are no workarounds, no backdoors, and no recovery through guessing.

Locking a file takes less than ten seconds. Right-click any file or folder, select Lock with PIN, set your four-digit code, and you are done. The lock is instant and permanent until you choose to remove it. You can lock individual files, entire folders, or both. There is no limit to how many items you can protect.

This is particularly powerful for shared family plans or team accounts where multiple people have dashboard access. Sensitive documents — tax records, medical files, personal photos, legal agreements — stay completely off-limits to everyone except you, even within a shared environment.

Secure Invite Codes: Sharing Without Exposure

The second feature solves a problem that has existed in cloud storage since the beginning. Traditional file sharing works by sending a link or entering someone's email address. Both methods have the same flaw — once you share something, you lose visibility and control. The recipient can forward the link, share the email, or access the file indefinitely unless you manually revoke it.

Secure Invite Codes change the entire dynamic. Instead of sharing a direct link to your file, you generate a unique invite code with a permission level you define. You choose exactly what the recipient can do — View Only, Comment, Edit, or Full Access. You set an optional expiry date after which the code stops working automatically. And if you ever change your mind, you revoke the code instantly from your Shared dashboard.

The file itself never moves. The recipient never gets direct access to your drive. They get precisely what you decide to give them, for exactly as long as you decide to give it.

Privacy Is Not a Feature. It Is the Foundation.

These two additions reflect a core belief that drives every decision we make at Drivaulta — that your files belong to you, and that you should never have to choose between convenience and control.
